SPRING TRAININGBack by popular demand, we are offering Spring Training again this year for players ages 8 and older for both softball and baseball teams! To be eligible for Spring Training sessions, your child must be registered to play for the upcoming spring season and sign up for spring training during the registration process. There is a $25 fee to participate and sessions generally take place at the high school or middle school gyms. The sessions will vary between week nights and some weekends. We are targeting to begin training in late February through March. This additional training is fully optional and will not impact a player's team placement for the regular season, but will give them some good instruction and a chance to get into the season earlier, but still afforded to play winter sports.
COMMUNICATIONThis year, we will be using the SportsConnect platform which is supported by the GameChanger App. Much of our communication will come through the SportsConnect platform. When registering, your email preference should be set to allow for emails from our organization. If not, it can be updated in the ‘Email Preferences’ section. We will be sending out account information on GameChanger after teams are formed in late March,
VOLUNTEER WITH SLLIf you are interested in coaching or volunteering, we would love to have you join us! You will have the opportunity to indicate this when registering your player in SportsConnect. Due to insurance and Little League rules, ANYONE who intends to step on a field and who interacts with players, for practices or games (coaches, bookkeepers, umpires, team parents, etc.) must be registered as a volunteer and complete the necessary background check and abuse awareness training program before they can participate in any little league activities. This includes the spring training and coaching for the season. If you are interested in learning more about coaching or have any specific questions regarding coaching, please contact us at
[email protected].
As you know, Little League is a completely volunteer organization that last year had over 550 players, and 100+ coaches, playing on 55+ teams running from ages 4 - 14 for softball and baseball. It is a large undertaking that is really only possible with the help of everyone, from board members, to coaches, and parents. Our registration fees help to cover the costs of uniforms (for players and coaches), equipment, umpires, insurance and our fees to Little League International. Beyond that, our league has to rent the fields from the town and pay for some private companies for mowing fields, maintenance and field equipment. The fees do not cover all of these costs, or touch any capital improvements, such as the building of the new triple-batting cage and new dugouts and press box that were put in at our Peterson Complex last year.
In order to keep our costs low, we need volunteers and assistance on selling our calendar raffle which is a major fundraiser and vital to our organization. When registering, there is an option to pay $50 and opt out of selling raffle tickets, or there is the expectation that you will help sell $100 of raffle tickets for each child in the program.
Beyond this, we ask each person to volunteer in some capacity during the season. This could be as a coach, or team parent, or by signing up to volunteer at Peterson in the snack shack for a game. Even if your kids are in a younger division, that one-night volunteering is a great way to show your kids the higher levels for the game and also pay it forward so parents of kids in the game can watch their children play. If everyone participates, we all win. Please fill out the area you might help the organization best as a volunteer, and please answer the call when we reach out for assistance. If everyone volunteers for one thing, we will all have a great experience.
