About Volunteering
We are a volunteer organization and could not operate without the generous support of so many parents, grandparents, and community members.
There are a number of areas you can help Scarborough Little League and no prior knowledge of baseball or softball is needed! We also provide training for many areas including coaching, umpiring, field help, and more.
Remember, if you are busy, we can use your help in many ways and it doesn't have to be for hours each day! Even just helping once a season at the Snack Shack during a game is a huge help to all our Scarborough families.
Volunteer Roles
| Head Coach |
Leads the team, plans practices, teaches skills, and fosters a love for the game. Sets the tone for teamwork, sportsmanship, and fun. |
| Assistant Coach |
Supports the Head Coach during practices and games, teaches fundamentals, and keeps the team organized and encouraged. |
| Team Parent / Dugout Parent |
Helps with team communication, snack coordination, and keeping the dugout organized—especially helpful with younger age groups. |

Volunteer Requirements
All volunteers with Scarborough Little League are required to complete the following steps:
-
Create a user account on the Scarborough Little League website (through SportsConnect).
-
Register as a volunteer for each appropriate program (e.g., 2026 Baseball or Softball, by target division):
- Click "Register Myself" (or go to "Volunteer" in the account menu and click the "Register Now!" button).
- Choose the program you want to support and complete all fields marked with an asterisk (*).
-
Complete the Little League-mandated background check once per year (usually before the Spring season).
Per national Little League policy, a nationwide background check is required. This is run through Little League’s partner, InstaScreen / JD Palatine (JDP). You will receive an email from Scarborough Little League through JDP, and it only takes a few minutes to complete. This process must be completed electronically, as there are no manual options allowed by Little League International.
All volunteers must complete this background check before interacting with any players.
-
Complete Abuse Prevention Training online before assuming any duties for the season.
SafeSport abuse awareness training is mandatory for all Little League volunteers as part of the annual application and background check process. This training has been encouraged since 2018 under the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and SafeSport Authorization Act and must be completed each season before volunteering begins.
- Step 1: Create a Little League Training account. Important: be sure to search for and select “SCARBOROUGH LL” in the box below your name and contact information.
- Step 2: Log in to the Little League training portal.
- Step 3: Under Learner View, click “All” and then select “Abuse Awareness Training.”
- Step 4: Complete the course.
-
Attend or watch Volunteer Safety Training based on your volunteer role.
Safety Training is required at least every two years for Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches. We strongly encourage other volunteers to attend as well, as the more people who understand our safety practices, the better for our players and families.
Scarborough Little League will share information on in-person training date(s) before the season. Volunteers may also complete the online first aid training offered by Little League if they are unable to attend the in-person event.
Questions & Additional Information
Depending on what you have volunteered for, additional information will follow as we get closer to the season. Thank you again for all that you do for our players and community.
